urf Steps: Introduce yourself?
Hi I’m Tom, a coach and manager at Surf Steps.
Surf Steps: How long have you been surfing? Where/ when did you start?
I’ve been surfing on and off for around 15 years but have had all my own gear and been going regularly for about 8 years now.
Surf Steps: What initially drew you to ‘wave sliding’ and what keeps you going out for more?
My mum has always been into watersports, so I spent a lot of time as a kid hanging off the back of her windsurfer or out on dive boats. She helped and encouraged me to try out lots of different water sports when I was younger and it eventually lead to surfing, which was the one for me!!

I’ve been surfing on and off for around 15 years but have been seriously into it for the last 10. My mum's always been into watersports and the beach so I spent a lot of time as a kid hanging off the back of her windsurfer, out on dive boats or playing on beaches so I guess it was inevitable that was going to rub off on me!. I gave up a 'proper job' to come and teach surfing full time about 5 years ago and that started me on the road to head coach and managing the school down here! I love my job so hope to be here for a long time to come.
I'll hopefully see you in the water soon ....
Aloha
