SURF FITNESS COURSE

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

We will be running a surf fitness course for 6 weeks. For now it is going to be on the weekends, but when the days get longer we will try to have an evening session on a weekday.
Drop us an email or call the office, if you are interested.

Duration: 6 weekly 2 hour sessions.
Places restricted to max 10 participants.
Price: £80

Why surfing fitness?
Your level of fitness determines how many waves you catch in the water. It’s as simple as that. The best way to keep up your fitness is to go surfing, but we all know how inconsistent the south coast can be regarding good surf. This weekly course aims at increasing your surfing fitness without the need of a boring gym routine, so you won’t be tired after a few waves when the next swell hits!

Who can participate?
Everyone who had a Beginner Surfing Lesson can take part. Beginner to advanced surfers are welcome and will benefit, as the main focus is on fitness.

So what are we doing?
The sessions are split into beach and water based exercises, which will improve your strength, agility, power, flexibility, balance and condition. Should we get lucky and the surf is pumping we will be working on surfing technique, e.g. catching waves, trim and turns in the water based section.

What do I need to bring?
As always, bring a towel and swimmers. We will provide the rest (wetsuits & boards). Make sure you have eaten well at least two hours before you exercise, so you don’t run out of energy, and you might want to bring a bottle of water.

At the moment the planned dates are:
Sunday 25th March at 2pm then is on the following
Saturday, 31st March at 10am. . . and through April it will be on the
Sundays of 8th, 15th , 22nd and 29th at 10am

YOGA ON THE BEACH

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Just a quick note to let you know of some exciting news:

Firstly we now have an inside venue !! at the surf school (so still at the same place) for the ‘not so good’ days!! It’s on the sea front, with a view of the sea, but with heating

We have Early morning Yoga on Tuesday mornings 7 – 8am

Also, we now have an early morning Holistic Body Toning session on Friday mornings 7 – 8am.

Ideal especially for the colder weather, we start with a top to toe warm up followed by a series of Martial Arts moves to warm the body and move it dynamically, Chi Gong moves are then incorporated to bring the oxygen to the muscles. Then we move on to Yoga, stretching out the warmed-up body and muscles, and finishing with a short standing Meditation. This will have you leaving the session warm, relaxed and chilled, with the benefit of a having had a cardio workout and stretched your body to its max whilst warm.

We also have an evening Yoga session on Wednesdays 6 – 7pm, and another evening Holistic Body Toning session on Tuesdays 6 – 7pm.

Now also on Facebook, so why not ‘make me a friend’ on Facebook – Frank.markham [email protected] – to keep up to date, see what its been like on the beach this week, and any special promotions taking place.

Hope to see you again soon.
Namaste

FREE FAMILY FUN IN BOURNEMOUTH THIS SUMMER!

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

The South Coast’s premier holiday destination is launching one of the UK’s biggest programme of free events this summer – starting this Friday with a spectacular display of fireworks, making a return to Bournemouth Pier after an absence of five years.

These fantastic pyrotechnic displays can be viewed from East and West of the Pier at 10pm every Friday throughout August. As part of the Friday Family Fiesta’s, the fireworks are the finale to a host of activities starting at 7pm. Take the whole family along and enjoy stilt walkers, street performers and circus workshops. The fun takes place on 22 and 29 July and 5, 12 and 26 August.

But at the heart of the summer’s events is the Bournemouth Air Festival, 18-21 August, the biggest free event of its kind in the country, attracting crowds of up to 1.3 million people.

Now in its fourth year, it’s bigger than ever with spectacular aeronautical displays from the Red Arrows, Avro Vulcan, Hawk Jet, Spitfire, the fearless Breitling Wingwalkers and a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (as seen at the William and Kate’s Royal Wedding) plus much more. Visit www.bournemouthair.co.uk for all the very latest information.

On the ground, there’ll be Royal Navy beach assaults, a Royal Navy climbing wall, RAF bands and the chance to meet the pilots themselves, and the seafront will be lined with one and a half miles of traders betweenBournemouthand Boscombe’s iconic piers, offering a huge choice of stalls and refreshments. And when the sun goes down, there’ll be dusk displays from the Tigers Parachute Display Team, O’ Brien’s Flying Circus and the Glider FX. Where else in theUKcan you get such fun-filled action set on seven miles of stunning beach – all for free?

Bournemouth’s much-loved Candlelight Nights returns this summer with a fresh new look. Watch the award-winningLowerGardensbecome illuminated with hundreds of tea lights on Wednesday evenings, 27 July and 3, 10 and 24 August. And there’ll also be the chance to enjoy different shows in three zones – fire, music, and family zones with plenty of music and street entertainment. The fun starts at 6pm and ends at 10pm.

Throughout August, the Kids Fun Festival returns to keep children entertained every day (weather permitting) from 1 – 28 August. Enjoy shows and storytimes in theLowerGardens, from favourite children’s characters, between 11am and 5pm.

SURF RELIEF UK PADDLE CHANNEL

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

After being beaten by the weather in 2010 the cross channel paddle is on for 2011. Five hardy surfers are raising funds for Surf Relief UK, the country’s leading surfing charity, by paddling surfboards across theEnglish Channel. This is the first time a number of individuals have attempted a cross channel paddle for charity.

The paddlers will set off fromDoverattempting to paddle the 26miles to the north coast ofFrancea 6-7hour challenge for those taking part. The paddlers are being provided with specialized Australian Bennett Paddle Boards kindly donated by Aqua Sport International and have the backing of a number of sponsors includingBigBlueSurfSchool, Thanet Leisure Force, Orbit and Woodys Surf Ammunition.

The aim of the paddle is to raise £5000 for the Charity’s Surfable project. This project provides disabled children and young people with surfing experiences through a network of surf schools across the UK. The money raised will give 600 children a unique and often life changing experience. The team is raising money through personal donations but is also offering companies and other organisations the opportunity to be part of the attempt. For £200 corporate sponsorship those donating will have a logo on the boards and rash vest worn by the paddlers and be mentioned in all media releases and sponsorship material including the event website. If you are interested in supporting this unique opportunity, go tohttps://www.charitiestrust.org/members_data/event/channelpaddle2011/index.html

NEED SOME FEEDBACK PLEASE!

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

I was wondering if you could help us?
As most of you know we run a water sports centre in Bournemouth and we feel that the training room/classroom (30 person capacity) on the site isn’t used enough. We’d like to get an idea of possible demand to help decide what to do with it, so we thought we’d ask you, our friends, the following:
Would you or any organisation you are associated with (such as clubs) be possibly interested in using the site and the beach in its proximity?

You don’t have do arrange anything, just let us know that you would maybe use the site in the future
For example the site can be used as a:
-Wet weather/sheltered area for beach sports activities, theory and/or training?
-Perhaps use as a base for events and competitions?
-A place for meetings and social events?

The site has male and female changing, toilets and is right beside the beach with good transport access and ample parking space.
Also if you know anyone else that may be interested in using the facilities in some way, please feel to pass this info on to them.
