Hi everyone,
now it’s cold and quiet, the surf steps crew go into semi-hibernation and only do one lesson a day. It’s normally at 12pm as it’s usually warmer then and it’s not dark
Also you must book, because if no one’s booked in, we might not be there (basically we’ll be hiding in bed keeping warm)! To book contact us on 0800 043 7873 or 07733895538 or e-mail at [email protected]
May the sun be warm, the wind light and the surf cranking!

Sharks were spotted at Bournemouth beach over the weekend. There were over twenty sharks, all British species, including the Short-fin Mako, Blue Sharks, Threshers and Basking Sharks and even Smooth Hammerheads were seen.
Don’t panic though. These sharks were not in the water as you may expect, they were on the sand. They were part of the Dorset Wildlife Trust’s (DWT) Sand-Shark Sculpture Competition. The event organiser, DWT volunteer Marc Smith said “You would actually be very lucky and privileged if you did manage to see any of these sharks in the water; they are unfortunately quite rare now. These sharks are threatened in the UK and are in serious trouble around the world”.
Over a hundred people turned up to take part in the competition at Bournemouth. Marc added “It’s been a great day; groups of friends and families have spent the day in the sunshine creating their master pieces. Everybody had so much fun; they learned about British sharks and most importantly they have shown their support for shark conservation”
Similar events were taking place all around the country and across Europe as part of European Shark Week. If you want to find out more about this visit www.sharktrust.org. To find out the winners of the Shark-Sand Sculpting Competition and for pictures of the event visit http://www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/shark_comp

Surf Relief UK, the country’s leading surfing charity, is raising funds by paddling surfboards across the English Channel . This is the first time a number of individuals have attempted a cross channel paddle for charity. To sponsor them go to: http://www.sponsor-me.org/channelpaddle2010
Five sponsored paddles will set off from Dover attempting to paddle the 26miles to the north coast of France . Given the tidal movement and channel currents experts estimate the actual length of the paddle will be 30miles - a 6-7hour challenge for those taking part. The paddlers are being provided with specialized 12ft Bennett Paddle Boards kindly donated by Aqua Sport International.
The aim of the paddle is to raise £5000 for the Charity’s Surfable project. This project provides disabled children and young people with surfing experiences through a network of surf schools across the UK . The money raised will give 600 children a unique and often life changing experience. Reflecting the charity’s aim to provide these lessons in all corners of the country the team is made up from representatives from Cornwall to Kent .
The paddlers will set off from Shakespeare Beach Dover on the 27th of September (weather permitting) with the aim of reaching Cap Gris Nez on the French coast some 6hrs later.
Surf Relief UK
The charity is currently running Project ‘Surfable’, a scheme which introduces disabled young people to the sport of surfing - for many a life changing experience - by funding subsidised lessons through a network of established surf schools around the country. All proceeds from the Channel Paddle will support project Surfable through a network of surf schools across the UK.
